Live Composite / Live Bulb / Live Time

Live Composite mode captures a base image and then only adds sections that become brighter in the scene in Live View. Live Bulb, allows photographers to see in Live View how the image is developing whilst keeping the shutter open for however long the shutter release button is pressed. Live Time, opens the shutter with the first press of the shutter release button and closes it with the second press whilst showing the photographer how the image is developing in Live. Mode dial “B” has been added on the E-M1 Mark III and it makes easer to access these long exposure modes. Composite shooting is now possible for maximum up to 6 hours[*].

  • For long duration of composite shooting, please use external power supply from AC adapter or USB Power Delivery etc.

Interval Shooting

E-M1 Mark III now supports Interval Shooting up to 9,999 frames. It lets you to shoot longer time with more frames and expands imaging expression.

Focus Stacking

1. The cut area guide is displayed when shooting

Focus Stacking mode records an image that is in focus from foreground to background by combining multiple images together. To adjust the depth of field after composition depending the distance or the size of the subject, you can select from 3 to 15 shots to use for compositing. It shows guide lines during the shooting to see where the images will be cut after they are recorded.

Focus Bracketing

It records up to 999 images and these can then be used with Olympus Workspace to create a photo with even greater depth of field and in-focus area than can be obtained with Focus Stacking.

  • Only images shot on a lens that supports Focus Stacking can be composited.

Silent mode

This mode allows you to turn off the mechanical shutter and all electronic sounds for silent shooting. Perfect for shooting in areas where shutter sounds are inappropriate, such as concert halls, etc.

Dual Card Slots

A side-by-side layout has been employed for easy removal of the desired card. Camera settings can be changed, and image playback display is also available while images are being written to the cards.
Standard: Records to specified card

In-body Fisheye Compensation

This feature makes it possible to remove the fisheye effect of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO and use as a wide-angle lens. You can select the angle of view from 11mm[*], 14mm[*], and 18mm[*]. The correction effect of this compensation can be seen in Live View on the camera monitor or viewfinder.

  • 35mm equivalent
  • Before correction
  • Fisheye Compensation Angle 2: 14mm (35mm equivalent)

Keystone Compensation

This feature delivers the same effect as shooting with a shift lens. The effects can be seen on the Live View screen while applying trapezoidal compensation and perspective enhancement simultaneously to the horizontal and vertical directions of the image.

  • Keystone Compensation: OFF
  • Keystone Compensation: ON

High Speed Viewfinder

The high-speed progressive scan electronic viewfinder, functioning at a maximum frame rate of 120fps with minimum display time lag down to 0.005 seconds, is perfect for shooting fast-moving subjects such as sport or wild birds. Apart from normal EVF showing the actual exposure and white balance on Live View monitor, it incudes Optical Viewfinder Simulation (S-OVF) which makes easier to check the details of the subject when shooting in backlit or dark scenes.

Anti-Flicker Shooting

The Anti-flicker shooting mode reduces the effect of flickering that tends to occur under artificial lighting. The camera can detect the frequency of artificial lighting and activates the shutter at peak brightness to smooth out uneven exposure and colour between frames.

  • Flicker can only be detected if the light source flicker frequency is 100 Hz or 120 Hz. The continuous shooting speed drops while using this feature.
  • Available for shooting with mechanical shutter.

Flicker Scan

Flicker Scan makes it possible to fine tune the shutter speed to reduce the striped patterns that tend to occur when shooting still images or recording videos indoors under artificial lighting such as LED lights. When using the electronic shutter, this feature allows to select the appropriate shutter speed that minimises the effects of flickering on Live View monitor. Additionally, E-M1 Mark III allows to adjust the shutter speed in larger steps by dial operation to reach the aimed shutter speed faster. Flicker Scan is effective when shooting video.

1. Can also be set when recording video
2. Set a shutter speed that minimizes flicker with the up / down buttons or dials

Handheld 4K / Cinema4K Shooting

The E-M1 Mark III is equipped with unrivalled strong image stabilisation M-IS1[*], which has been realised with the combination of 5 axis image stabilisation (sensor shift) and electronic stabilisation dedicated for video shooting. It allows handheld video shooting at high resolution 4K and digital cinema 4K (4096*2160) which is commonly affected by camera shake, even without equipment to stabilise the movements. The video shooting situation varies, some cases the camera stays steady, hardly moving, unstable, etc. The image stabilisation strength has 3 levels to allow high resolution shooting with aimed expression.

  • The angle of view is narrower than M-IS2
